CW Human Interest Stories 2 Jan. 27, 2012

Read the following human interest story about an SHS student.

http://sfhighschoolsports.com/blog/beyond-sport/beyond-sport-nothing-stops-determination

Find another story on the web or in a yearbook about a young person.

For each of the stories, answer:
1. What does the writer say that give you the sense of being in the person's shoes?
2. What quotes from the person does the writer include? Choose at least two.
3. What statements does the writer make paraphrasing the person's words?
4. What metaphors does the writer use?
5. What words in the article invoke emotion, and what emotions do they invoke?

Last class, a few students came up with some excellent topics for human interest stories! They included Steven R. rock climbing, David S.' SAT score, and Mr. S.' battle with leukemia.

and here are some other ideas:
signing day
robotics
athletic articles
travel team players
silver knights
academic project
scholarships
summer program
volunteering
family business
service learning project
interesting job - dj?
car/ saved money
assistant to teacher/coach

Review your ideas from last class and choose one to research. Write 10 interview questions for the person your story will be about.
